Getting reimbursed for the sessions you've already paid for
A step-by-step walk-through of submitting a superbill to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Entirely optional — nothing about your care here depends on doing this.
The short version: we're not in-network with any insurance plan, but we can give you a document (called a "superbill") that some plans will partially reimburse you for. Whether that's worth pursuing depends on your specific plan — this guide helps you find out.
Before you begin
Call the number on the back of your insurance card
Ask for "member services" and say you have questions about out-of-network mental health benefits. Here's exactly what to ask:
- "Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health / behavioral health services?"
- "What's my out-of-network deductible, and have I met any of it this year?"
- "Once I've met it, what percentage of the session fee is reimbursed?"
- "Is there a limit on the number of sessions per year?"
- "Do you need pre-authorization for out-of-network mental health visits?"
- "How do I submit a claim — mail, fax, or an online member portal?"
